About Charlie Clover Racing
Charlie has always had an affinity with horses. After leaving school, he immediately began running his own full-time eventing yard, achieving significant success at both national and international levels, including being shortlisted for the GBR junior and young rider eventing teams.
Charlie found his way into racing in 2016 when his eldest brother, Tom Clover, started training. This experience quickly hooked Charlie, and his career in racing took off.
Assisting in the growth of Toms successful yard, Charlie obtained an amateur flat and jumps licenses, as well as a point-to-point license, enjoying wins across the board.
Eager to expand his knowledge, Charlie spent some time in America working for White Birch Farm, where he assisted in pretraining some of the most promising yearlings in the country. He also worked with Christophe Clement Racing, one of America's most respected trainers. Christophe sent two horses to Royal Ascot the following summer and entrusted Charlie with the final preparations leading up to their respective races.
Upon his return from the States, Charlie immediately took on an assistant role for Kevin Philippart de Foy, where he was tasked with opening and managing a new secondary yard for the growing business (Kings Yard, Egerton). The yard went on to achieve tremendous success, contributing 28 of the 62 total winners last year. Subsequently, Charlie spent last winter in Dubai, where he saddled Vafortino to win and place second in two valuable black-type races at Meydan.
Alongside this role, Charlie has become adept at buying and selling bloodstock independently, demonstrating a keen eye for value in the sales ring. Last year's total spend across two yearlings was 21,500gns, with a resale of 75,000gns at breeze-up and HIT sales. These two horses have gone on to achieve notable success: ‘Mc Loven’ broke the Lingfield track record over 5F for juveniles, while ‘Mysterious Shadow’ won three of her first four starts in Italy, including two listed races. The prize money for these two individuals currently stands at over £70,000.
Now embarking on his own training journey, Charlie is seeking the support of prospective owners to join his ever-expanding team.
